Today’s card was actually pretty simple, but looks really impressive. Oh, and did I mention that it’s the featured card today on Mary Fish’s Stampin’ Pretty blog? If you’ve linked over from her site, welcome to Impressions, I hope you stick around and take a look at some of my other recent creations!!
If you can’t tell, this is a loooong card. It measures 6.5×3.25 and fits in a Small Open End Envelope from SU!. I enjoy making cards of this size – I don’t really see them often on other blogs, but maybe I’ll start a trend (LOL). I think that in this case, putting the card vertical allows for extra drama, like the stars are launching out of the box.
So, here’s some highlights:
- I made the box using the XL Tag punch. I scored a line to make a square, and then colored in the box “top” with a VersaMarker to make it look like it was darker, and to give more dimension. I also used some of the new Shimmer Paint to give it some sparkle. In order to give some added dimension, I put a dimensional at the top of the box (behind the word “wish”) and just put some SNAIL at the bottom, so only the top of the box pops out from the paper.
- The sentiment is accented with gold embossing on the star and black embossing on the word BIG.
- The streamers were a bit of a free-form creation. I cut some thin strips of black CS, and then cut each strip into thinner strips and rolled with my paper piercing tool.
- The stars were super easy: The blue ones are just simple cardstock, accented with the Shimmer Paint. A little goes a long way, so you may want to practice first on a piece of scrap. The red stars are from our new GLIMMER PAPER (LOVE that stuff!) – I finally got out of the rut of Red + glitter = Valentines

Very nice card. Love your “out of the box” thinking with the glimmer paper and ‘streamers’. Hopped over from our Leader Pal’s Blog. Now that I found you, I plan to visit often!
So cute. I also love big cards and enjoy making them too.
Have a great day,

Your card caught my eye on Mary Fish’s blog and I just had to come over and get some of the deets on it. Great card!! Love this size…something I’ve never used and will have to give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Wow… what a great card for the 4th… I can use some of my red glimmer paper, which I love so much. I will have to buy some of the envelopes that fit this size. I love unique cards. Tks for sharing!
